Homemade Crostini

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (around 200°C).
  • Slice the Baguette: Using a sharp knife, slice the French baguette into thin rounds, approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
  • Brush with Olive Oil: Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet in a single layer. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil on one side. Make sure to coat each slice evenly for golden and crispy crostini.
  • Season with Salt and Pepper: Sprinkle the crostini with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste while they are still warm. This will enhance their flavor.
  • Toast in the Oven: Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and toast the baguette slices for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp around the edges. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
  • (Optional) Rub with Garlic: Remove the toasted crostini from the oven and immediately rub the cut side of the garlic cloves over the top of each slice. This will infuse the crostini with a subtle garlic flavor.
  • Serve or Store: Once cooled, serve the homemade crostini immediately with your favorite toppings, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
